Unemployed hiring incentive extended

Workforce Solutions Alamo has received notice that the Texas Back to Work program has been extended.
Employers in the agency’s 12-county area can receive monetary incentives for hiring unemployed workers under a two-year, $15 million state program promoted by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and funded by the Texas Legislature last session.

Talking about the controversial federal education funding bill that singled out Texas with special spending restrictions, Dewhurst said some schools in Texas may still be able to receive funding from the bill. He and Gov. Rick Perry say the Texas requirement in the bill conflicts with the Texas Constitution.

Second Forum on Proposed UT Tuition Hike Today

University of Texas administrators today are holding the second of two public forums on proposed 3.95 percent tuition hikes in 2010-11 and again in 2011-12.
A nine-member Tuition Policy Advisory Committee wrote in a December report that the pair of increases are needed to stave off further cuts to UT programs and staff. The recommendations by students, administrators and faculty previously were discussed at a public forum last week.
