Statement Condemning Controversial Performance of Play at Tarleton State University

David released the following statement today condemning the performance of the controversial play Corpus Christi at Tarleton State University, in Stephenville, Texas, the day before Palm Sunday:

"Every citizen is entitled to the freedom of speech, but no one should have the right to use government funds or institutions to portray acts that are morally reprehensible to the vast majority of Americans."

"Texans don't deserve to see their hard-earned tax money used to debase their religion. This lewd display runs completely contrary to the standards of scholastic excellence and common decency that we demand in our publicly-funded institutions for higher learning."

Thank you for making this statement. Your courage is most appreciated by Texans and all morally upright Americans. God bless you!

That’s ridiculous, they should be able to have that play. Funding for plays should either by completely cut off or not cut off at all, it shouldn’t be based on whether it follows the governor’s beliefs or not. It doesn’t matter if it represents the views of a minority of Americans, it’s still a view and should not be slashed down.

Thank you, Mr Dewhurst, for supporting the ideals of censorship America was founded on!

Thanks for trying to interfer with a student’s individual project. What are you going to do next, write a condemation of a undergraduate’s essay denouncing religion? I would think you would have better things to do for your official duties. I guess its just a cheap ploy to gain political points for something that has nothing really to do with your job. Keep up the good work.
